Donut Picking

2012 was not a very good year for apples. The spring came too early. The rain too late. The whole season was a mess from an apple growing standpoint. Armed with that information we packed up our station wagon and headed to County Line Orchard in Hobart, Indiana to "pick" apples.

They hadn't lied on the website. The harvest was dismal... in truth, non-existent. Stunt apples had to be brought in for our mock picking in the orchard.

Still, we had a fabulous day with Aunt Katie. Although the apple harvest was sparse, we picked up many wonderful things along the way.

We picked pumpkins.

We picked family.

We picked donuts.

Henry David Thoreau wrote, "Surely the apple is the noblest of fruits." I could not agree more but I think he forgot about donuts.
